Aldersgate Homes was incorporated in 1977 under the direction of a Board of Directors who had the original dream to develop a seniors campus with a continuum of housing and services for seniors where area seniors could age in comfort and dignity. The founding Board of Directors were representatives of the Free Methodist, Standard and Wesleyan Churches who raised funds with a mission to provide safe and affordable housing for seniors. By December 1982, construction was completed on Aldersgate Homes, the first building of 47 rental apartments. With full occupancy and a healthy waiting list, Phase II began in 1991 with an additional 41 rental apartments, funded by the provincial government.

In 2001, a new corporation, Aldersgate Garden Home Inc., was formed.  Using the Life Lease model, sixteen townhome style Garden Homes were built in 2002, with an additional 8 units added in 2004 and 2005, for a total of 24 suites.  Construction funding was obtained from the Wesleyan Investment Foundation, which carried the cost of units until full occupancy in September 2006 when the project became mortgage free.

Aldersgate Village has been serving the needs of area seniors socially, spiritually and physically for over 40 years.
